Allah Almighty has blessed this universe with countless gifts like air to breath, water and of curse food.  Countless thanks wouldn’t equal a single bite our throat swallow. But it’s not just food, it’s a proper medical aid as well to keep up our body to perform all the required task.

As Prophet Muhammad SAW is the one we follow to earn His approval, he has commanded the followers to never disgust any food which is considered Halal by Allah SWT. He advised the Muslim to eat everything presented to them and never complain about food and remain thankful to The Provider.

Here are some of the favorite food of prophet SAW and there benefits.  Add them in your daily diet and see the miraculous effects on your health.

Barley was one of the favorite food of Prophet PBUH. He use to receive it as gift from his companions. He liked its consumption very much and used it as bread, porridge, and dough. He SAW was very optimistic about the positive impact of the Barley usage on health.  On one of the occasion when Hazrat Ali (RA) was ill, prophet SAW said, "You recently recovered from illness, hence you are weak, hence don’t eat more. Therefore, that lady prepared a dish from barley and beet root. Then, the Prophet (saws) told Ali "eat from it, it is better for you". (Ibn-e-Maja, Sanad-e-Ahmed, Tirmizi). On another occasion he said, "It removes the grief of the patients heart, removes its weakness as any of you removes the dirt from your face after washing it". (Ibn Maja).

Barley crops are farmed during the season of Rabi, and are used mostly in the form of flour to make bread. In foods, barley is used as a source of vitamins, carbohydrates, proteins, and fatty oils.  Barley is used for lowering blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol, and for promoting weight loss. It is also used for digestive complaints including diarrhea, stomach pain, and inflammatory bowel conditions.

Benefits narrated by Prophet SAW is validated by modern sciences.

Dates:  it’s Sunnah of Prophet PBUH to break his fast with Dates. He said, “Break your fast by eating dates as it is purifying.” (Narrated by Ahmad). Narrated by Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "There is a tree among the trees which is similar to a Muslim (in goodness), and that is the date palm tree." (Bukhari, Vol.7 (65): 359). He also said, He who eats seven ‘Ajwa dates every morning will not be affected by poison or magic on the day he eats them.” (Bukhari)

Benefits of eating Dates are countless.  Presence of Vitamins specifically Vitamin B-6 makes it very healthy along with minerals like, manganese, copper, iron and calcium like potassium, manganese.

Honey was Prophet’s favorite due to its medicinal value and delicious taste. Even Allah himself has validated the healing powers of Honey. Prophet SAW said once, Honey is a remedy for every illness and the Qur'an is a remedy for all illness of the mind, therefore I recommend to you both remedies, the Qur'an and honey.'(Bukhari).  It is used for multiple purposes like for healthy weight loss, eye irritation, bladder infections, Cholesterol and what not.

Cucumber was among prophet’s favorite fruits. He use to mix it with dates to baance off the cold and warm effect. Abdullah ibn Jaafar Radiyallahu anhu says, “Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaihe wasallam ate Qith’thaa (cucumbers) with dates.”

Vinegar which is medically accepted as anti-cough, anti-inflammation and bearer of digestive properties, was an essential part of Prophet’s diet. According to a tradition, he SAW called it blessed seasoning". According to a narration, "I have loved vinegar since I heard it from Allah’s Prophet". And Talhah ibn Naf'a said, "I have loved vinegar since I heard it from Jabir." [Muslim, Abu Dawud, Nasa’i.

Everything that Prophet Muhammad SAW said or did was for the benefit of the mankind therefore, he advised us the food which is of high medical value. Therefore, add them in your daily diet and ENJOY A HEALTHY LIFE.
